- A Philadelphia grand jury has decided not to recommend criminal charges for a dozen police officers who were videotaped beating three men last year. The grand jury could not reconcile what was seen on video with the lack of injuries sustained by the three men (who were suspected but acquitted of firing shots into a crowd of people in Feltonville).
- Following up on this morning's story of the jogger killed by a falling branch in Fairmount Park, the jogger has been identified as 23-year-old high school teacher Mary Katherine Ladany.
- Philadelphia Newspapers LLC, which owns the Inqy and the DN, has requested an extension of time from August 31 to October 30 to file its bankruptcy reorganization plan.
