Asshole of the Week

cthulu run away Lucky, lucky.

We're fortunate enough this week to be graced by the Great Monster Cthulutastic Hatey-McHate Face presence of Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church. In case you forget what the jerking sensation of rising bile is for—these are the folks who famously protested at Matthew Shepard's funeral, the funerals of military personnel (not because they are opposed to the war—but because they are opposed to homosexuality which simply won't stop existing in America no matter what they do—so frustrating), and Broadway. They hold nasty signs and then attempt to sue whoever opposes them, because the First Amendment protects them, and they believe God loves them and responds to their warped medieval throwback Christianity.

I'm not going to link to them, because they're disgusting, but they are here for a "love crusade" against almost every synagogue in Center City, the Sheraton Hotel hosting a Jewish genealogy conference, and the National Museum of American Jewish History by picketing "filthy, Christ-rejecting Jews." Through waving their "God Hates Jews" signs at families going to worship, they intend to sort out the evil Jewish people from the good ones which might, maybe, possibly exist.

Just in case you think you're safe from their hate—not so fast. They're also stopping by the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to shower the Catholics with shouting spittle. And if the WBC isn't protesting against your existence this time, maybe they'll get you later. They also hate Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, other Baptists, the Eastern Orthodox, Muslims, Hindus, and Black people. Look out Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love is about to get a lot less cuddly.

Assholes.

I was glad to see no one did anything stupid and hauled off and smacked these AWESOME "messengers of love". I was unaware, but some friends of mine have informed me Phelps and his church (mostly) fund themselves through suing those who object to their right to free speech by punching them in the mouth.
