- A four-story apartment building for international students at Temple University is causing a stir in North Philadelphia. Proponents argue that the new building will increase aesthetic appeal and create jobs; opponents argue that there is not parking allocated nor is there a plan to have retail/commercial space on the ground level of the complex.
- Police investigators have four people in custody surrounding the shootings at the Piazza at Schmidts. They are searching for more suspects and as many as 10 could be charged in connection with the murders.
- The FBI arrested 30 people this morning in a two-track corruption and international money laundering scheme. Among those arrested were the mayors of Hoboken and Secaucus as well as Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini and Jersey City Council President Mariano Vega.
- Cabbies paraded from University City to City Hall in protest of what they call the Philadelphia Parking Authority's thieving ways. They blocked the streets of Center City en route to City Hall chanting "the PPA are robbers!"
- Michael Woodard, an 11-year-old East Falls boy, will sing "America the Beautiful" at the U.S. Open. Woodard will be the first Philadelphian to sing at the tennis event./li>
