- The first Microsoft retail stores will be ready to launch this fall, and some will be opening up right next to Apple stores. A sharp increase in nerd slap fights in malls is expected to follow.
- Warren Ellis says the long-awaited 27th issue of the fantastic comic book series Planetary is on track for an October release. Woo!
- The legal fight between New Line Cinema and the Tolkien estate is still ongoing, and could stop the release of the film adaptation of The Hobbit. Meanwhile, the filmmakers have a presence at Comic-Con, and rumor has it they might announce the name of the lead star.
- "19-year-old Sean Stanley Smith was arrested on the Nevada border after he was spotted by a motorist wandering around the highway nude. He was ordered by police to stop but proceeded into a nearby casino—where he was then tasered in front of a group of children. Smith claims he was a Terminator sent back in time from the future." Hmm. Probably not a real Terminator if they could take him down with a regular old taser gun. But hey, what was a group of children doing in a casino anyway?
- The first images from Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox. Not as exciting as we'd hoped, but not terrible.
- An Entertainment Weekly article recently came out featuring pictures of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2, and we all got excited. But apparently the article also includes Mickey Rourke saying, "I told Favreau, 'I don't want to just play him as a one-dimensional p----. He let me have a cockatoo, who I talk to and get drunk with while I'm making my suit.'" Um... what? Oh God. Don't screw this movie up, Favreau!!
