Three Is the New Four

Well hello there. You mean you're sitting at your computer right now? Whatever for? Didn't you know that the whole world (or at least, the world of America) has decided to make the Third of July nearly as important as the Fourth? That means you're supposed to be down the shore, or participating in Welcome America festivities or, um, getting drunk.

Phillyist is taking the rest of today off, and in the spirit of the latter of the three options presented above, we wanted to leave you with this: it's a recipe for McGillin's Olde Ale House's Red White & Blue Freedom Cocktail, pictured above. A word of warning, though: too many of these and not only will you have a blue tongue tonight, but you'll have one helluva headache tomorrow. And headaches plus airborne explosives at the Art Museum? They don't mix.

McGillin's Red White & Blue Freedom Cocktail

  • 1-1/2 cups ice
  • 1-1/2 shots rum
  • ½ cup Strawberry daiquiri mix
  • ½ cup Piña Colada mix
  • ½ cup Blue Curacao

Blend ½ cup ice, ½ shot rum and strawberry daiquiri mix. Set aside. Blend ½ cup ice, ½ shot rum and piña colada mix. Set aside. Blend ½ cup ice, ½ shot rum and Blue Curacao.

Carefully, pour daiquiri mixture into bottom of hurricane glass. Top with piña colada mixture. Pour blue curacao on top. Pour each layer very carefully so that the colors stay separate.

Enjoy!
