Asshole of the Week

crime bike

Though robbery hasn't been charming for a while (it has been a long time since "The Highwayman"), these two unknown gents seem determined to make it as awkwardly lame as possible. The police are currently searching for two young men on BMX bikes wielding Uzis who began a crime spree on Tuesday. BMX bikes and Uzis? Really? Is that necessary?

First, they robbed a liquor store at 51st and Lancaster, then the Caprice Villa at 50th and Market. Then they rested for the evening. The next night, they were out again committing two more robberies with the unnecessarily high-powered weapons. Police Lt. John Walker says, "They're older-type bars because they don't have the new surveillance equipment, and he's targeting those types of businesses and older people behind the bar, so he doesn't get much resistance." Lame. Each heist is only really affording the young dudes about $300, so they aren't getting large amounts of money for their own risk, or the risk they're placing upon others. The police expect the robberies to continue until the men are caught, which probably won't be until someone gets shot.

BMX bikes and Uzis really ought not to go together. Here's hoping they spring a flat.
