- A man fleeing police in the Feltonville section of the city last night plowed his Pontiac into a crowd of people, killing three children and seriously injuring the mother of one. The driver, unfortunately, was not critically injured.
- In other "upstanding citizen" news, bail was set at $10 million for Jose Carrasquillo, the man charged with raping an 11-year-old and assaulting a 16-year-old in Kensington. We're afraid the bail is a little too high, as Kensington neighbors are going to have trouble scratching together $10 million so that they can bail him out to kick his ass again.
- A federal judge yesterday ordered that Philadelphia Newspapers LLC (which owns the Inqy, DN, and Philly.com) can hire "special counsel" to investigate the alleged unauthorized taping of a meeting between the company and its creditors last November.
- So, ummm...the state still has a budget problem. So, ummm...Governor Rendell we might be looking at higher income taxes. But don't worry: it'd only be temporary. Right. In any event, an income tax hike is going to be a tough sell in the Republican-controlled state legislature.
- Chase Utley jacked two home runs to right field and Ryan Madson notched his first save opportunity as the Phills' "official" closer as the Phightin's pulled out come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Mets in 11 innings last night.
