  • Fourteen members of a Chester gang were arrested in an early-morning raid yesterday.
  • The budget approved by the City Council, which would increase sales tax (temporarily, so they say) and make major changes to the city's pension fund payments, may face stiff opposition when it goes to the state legislature for approval.
  • A squeaky clean looking math teacher at North Penn High School is being charged with having sex with a student and sending sexually explicit messages to that student and another over the Internet.
  • And speaking of teachers behaving badly, a South Jersey teacher has been sentenced to four years in prison for witness tampering in another sex-with-a-student case. This teacher allegedly tried to persuade the student to recant her allegations of having a sexual relationship with another teacher.
  • For those north of the city (or if you feel like making the drive), if the idea of spending your Memorial Day weekend at cookouts, in the park, or anywhere outdoors, you can spend it comfortably indoors staring at a slot machine at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, which opened this morning.
  • The Phillies got four RBIs out of Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez jacked his fifteenth home run as the Phightins shelled the Reds, 12-5. The League's most high-powered offense will now head to the hitter-friendly new Yankee Stadium for three games against the Evil Empire guys in pinstripes.
