PAWS Cat of the Week

Felix (PAWS Cat of the Week, 5/19/09) It's that time of year again: kitten season. That means that young kittens need foster care until they're big enough to be neutered/spayed and adopted, and older cats in Philadelphia's shelters are at even higher risk for euthanasia because of lack of space due to the deluge of kittens. PAWS gives these animals a chance at life by getting them out of the shelter and into caring homes. If you've thought about becoming involved as a volunteer or foster parent, now is the time. (If you have specific questions about fostering, you can contact PAWS's foster coordinator Robin at robin@phillypaws.org.) And as always, your thoughtful donations help keep PAWS able to do its fantastic work.

PAWS will be hosting a special information session and fundraiser tomorrow, May 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cosi at 4th & Chestnut. The session will give you all the info you need to know about being a foster parent to a cat, dog, or litter of kittens. Fostering is the only option for many animals, especially as we head into the summer, so PAWS needs all the help it can get. And if you can't foster, don't worry; swing by Cosi tomorrow evening for a bite to eat anyway, as they'll be donating a percentage of their evening sales to PAWS!

Also, we're pleased to announce that a couple of Phillyists are fostering kittens at this moment—stay tuned for pictures of the Phillyist fosters!

Felix (ID# A07340815)

Felix is a loving adult cat who was surrendered to a high-kill shelter when he lost a lot of weight, to the point of being emaciated, earlier this spring. PAWS rescued him from the shelter and discovered that he has a dental problem. Under PAWS's care, Felix has put on a lot of weight in the last couple months. He will have some teeth removed; aside from that, he's a healthy boy. Felix is about 6 to 10 years old, and is clearly companion animal material: he's a talker (especially at feeding time), he loves being pet and is fine with being handled, and he gets along well with other cats. What more could you ask for?

If you'd like more information about Felix, e-mail alamond@phillypaws.org. You can find Felix at the PAWS Adoption Center, which is located at 100 N. 2nd Street (the corner of 2nd and Arch). Also, make note of Felix's ID number above, and bring it with you when you go to the adoption center. Adoption hours are Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sun., 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
