Green Scene: Growing the Grange

urban farm.jpg How can we feed Philadelphia? And we’re not talking about cheesesteaks and soft pretzels here, folks. We’re talking about locally grown, healthy food.

If you’d like to know the answer to this question, there are two upcoming events that might be of interest to you.

The first one is titled, “How Can we Feed Philadelphia: Growing the Grange,” and is the latest Urban Sustainability Forum. The forum will address the issue of urban agriculture in Philadelphia and discuss ways growers, markets, and consumers can strengthen and improve our region’s access to affordable food that is both safe and healthy. The forum will take place at the Academy of Natural Sciences on May 21 and is free. For more information or to RSVP, click here.

The next day, Friday, May 22, the Schuylkill Center is hosting a hands-on workshop called, “Growing the Grange: Skill-Building Workshops for the Urban Farmer.” Workshops offered include seed saving, hoop house construction, small space farming, and business planning. For more information or to register for this workshop, click here. The fee for this workshop is $10 for partial day and $15 for a full day.
