One hundred forty years ago, the founder of Stanford University drove a Golden Spike into the ground in Utah, connecting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways, connecting the nation through rail and forever changing travel as the world knew it.
To mark this momentous occasion, Amtrak is throwing a party, and Philly's got the invite. Our own 30th Street Station will be filled with live music, train tours (of cool, old trains, not just the Acela you know and love) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be lots of interactive stations from the Go Green Express to the Amtrakids Depot with games, music, and all around good times.
Note: All events are free (Talk about Frugal Fun!) but you'll need a ticket for the train tours.
