Now, if we could all simply hand our garbage and recycling to Mayor Nutter, rather than indelicately tossing it on the street, all our problems would be solved!

Seriously, sometimes Philly makes me a little ill. Since i have moved back here from the West coast, I've realized how not green Philly is and it bothers me on a daily basis. Granted, a lot of it has to do with individual citizens' ignorance and laziness, but there are a lot more things Philly can do as a city to actually become greener.
i like how nutter looked got the date on the newspaper before they recycled it.
lest he hadn't done the crossword that day?
what about these is solar-powered? i must be missing something...
lap dog: the trash bin part of it is actually a trash compactor. that's the part that uses energy. but note that the recycling bin doesn't have any solar powered compacting to it. they haven't quite figured out how to do that cost effectively yet, from what i hear.
The solar panel powers a compactor that reduces trash volume by up to 5X, so fewer collections are needed, less time is spent, less fuel used, etc. The installation is projected to save over $12M and many tons of carbon dioxide annually, from what I hear.
