Sometimes, this Phillyist wishes she could reach out through the grand tubes of the internet and strangle (deliver to traditional, state-sanctioned justice) the weekly round-up of jerks and lowlifes recognized here. This week's winners deserve an especially thorough strangling.
The as yet unidentified assholes stole money from charity. They walked up to the table at Liberty Place where two women were collecting donations for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, took the box of cash and ran out the door (Fox News has the surveillance video). Here's a breakdown of the awfulness: First, these men are thieves. The Philadelphia affiliate of the robbed organization raises money for breast cancer research and provides medical screenings, treatment, and support to the disenfranchised and undeserved members of our community. And, the women tabling for the charity are cancer survivors themselves. So, these two men stole from the fund that could be saving their own grandmothers, mothers, or sisters. They terrorized cancer survivors. They're giving our city a bad name through their highly publicized crime.
Happily, not everyone is so morally destitute. A tenant of the Liberty Place building, accounting firm Parente Rudolph, is replacing the stolen $5,000. Company CEO Jeff Fero says simply that it is the right thing to do. Damn straight.
