Phillyist Playlist: Jimmy Eat World Clarity x 10 Tour at The Troc

jimmyeatworld Clarity is one of my favorite albums of all time. At the very least, it was my favorite album in high school…and we all know how important those high school records can be.

Jimmy Eat World is playing that record from beginning to end tonight at the Trocadero, which is pretty awesome, because it’s one of only ten dates they'll be playing in the U.S. Muchos kudos to Jimmy Eat World for playing the Troc when they’ve sold out the Electric Factory and could have packed the Tower Theater for this kind of show.

For anyone going to this show tonight, I’m sure this record means a lot to them. I’ve talked to and read about so many musicians who say that Clarity is one of their favorite records of all time. Say what you want about their contemporaries, but it is one of the high points of the emo genre.

Personally, I cannot wait to see how they pull off their closer “Goodbye Sky Harbor,” which clocks in just over 16 minutes on the album. For anyone unable to get out to the show tonight, definitely check out Clarity if you haven’t. It’s not like the same kind of music that made the band popular, but after 10 years of throwing around the word “underrated,” it is considered their masterpiece by many.

i feel the same way about clarity. it's still one of the most beautiful records i've ever listened to, and still my favorite by a long shot. there's new depth in it that i see more and more with every passing year. i think that's how, despite having my first listen at 17, it still entrances me at 25.
