Phillyist Playlist On-Sale Alert: The Decemberists at the Tower

The Decemberists: The Hazards of Love

The 2009 album that this Phillyist is most eagerly awaiting, hands down, is the forthcoming Decemberists (MySpace) offering, The Hazards of Love, which will be released March 24. In connection with the release of Hazards, the band will be doing a special concert at South by Southwest—on March 18, the band will headline NPR's Music SXSW Showcase at Stubb's and play Hazards in its entirety. Even if you can't make it to Austin for the show—we can't either—perhaps you can be there vicariously, by sending your artwork for the concert.

Huh? Well, the Decemberists are running a contest for a fan to design the commemorative poster for the concert. We'll let you decide whether this is an opportunity for fans, or just a way for the band to get some no-cost graphic design, but it'd certainly be something for your portfolio. If you're interested, follow the above link for contest details and entry information.

But on to more local news. The Decemberists recently announced their tour dates in support of Hazards, and the Philadelphia stop will be on Saturday, June 6 at the Tower, and tickets just went on sale about a half hour ago, so snatch 'em up while you can—and pray you don't get screwed by the evil empire LiveNation web server.
