- Beware! V-Day is nearly upon us! Wired recommends some romantic gadgets (or rather, recommends against them), Cinematical recommends some gifts for the movie geeks, and Zara on Shiny Shiny lists some techie Valetine's gifts she'd like to receive.
- Defective Yeti has posted this year's version of his annual Create Your Own Oscar Pool Page (via). In other Oscar news, Peter Gabriel has refused to sing his nominated song from Wall-E ("Down to Earth") at the ceremony because the show's producers allotted him only 65 seconds to sing an abbreviated version, as part of a short medley of all three nominated songs.

- Three new 60-second spots for X-Men Origins: Wolverine will air on Fox on successive nights, starting Sunday, with the first showing during Family Guy, the second during House, and the third during American Idol. Apparently together they will tell one continuous narrative. While you're waiting for those, you can check out a few new photos from the movie here—although... wow, those are pretty bad. Seriously, they look really fake. They couldn't have put together better images than those?

- Check out a pretty cool clip from the upcoming Wonder Woman animated movie, in which WW's clothes get ripped off while she's fighting Cthulhu at the mall. Sort of.
- Southwest Airlines now has a plane with a giant picture of a woman in a bikini on the side of it. It's to go with their van with the wizard on the side.
- The Pentagon has a 1.8 gigapixel camera which they plan to load onto a robot helicopter.

- Oops! We kind of missed Darwin's 200th birthday. We hope he wasn't terribly insulted. Anyway, Wired didn't miss it; they wrote a nice article about his legacy.
- Threat Level lists some of the best items banned from sale on eBay.

- We're amused that there's a robot that "detects and avoids objects in its way by stopping, reversing direction and then insulting you."
- Konami sued Viacom (Harmonix's parent company) last July, claiming the company's game Rock Band infringed some patents. Now Harmonix is responding by suing them right back, claiming Konami is actually infringing Viacom's patents. D'oh.
- The lead designer of World of Warcraft is leaving the game—to go to work on Blizzard's next MMO!
- More bad news from SEGA—the company is rumored to have pulled funding from a couple of its Aliens games, leading to layoffs and the potential for more job loss.
- A new study looking at the causes of depression among adolescents showed that video games have no depressing effects, although too much television does.
- L.A. Confidential director Curtis Hanson is in negotiations to helm the sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man. The movie sounds a little cliche—a brilliant, aging assassin tries to retire, only to find himself the target of his employers. But the interesting twist is that the guy they send after him is a clone of his younger self.
- This is a new low: they're making a movie based on the Stretch Armstrong toy.
- Sci Fi Wire has some advice for Frank Miller on how to make a good Buck Rogers movie, and thus redeem himself.
