Loving the Libraries

This marks the second post by new writer Erica Maxwell (we kind of forgot to say anything before her Asshole of the Week post last Friday). Erica, an alum of Philly's own Temple University and a native of the Philadelphia area, is a graduate student at Rutgers-Camden. She lives in West Philadelphia.

The economy is crap and Valentine's Day is coming. This is essentially a double whammy of awful, because while we listen to the depressing news we also have to look at plaintive "I Love You Beary Much" critters every time we innocently go to CVS. But, the Coalition to Save the Libraries is giving you an opportunity to do something lovely with your February 14th. Seven branches will host an afternoon of free activities celebrating family, books, and community. If you have a kid, or you ever were a kid, or if you love your libraries, consider this a worthwhile alternative to moping about how Valentine's Day really commemorates the death by clubbing of a 3rd century Roman priest as you stomp through CVS.
