Yo, Philly in the News

  • Just when you thought the economic times can't get any worse, it's being reported that Mayor Nutter will announce today that the city's budget gap has widened to a projected $2 billion over the next five years, double what was originally thought. Twice the gap means that twice the cuts may be forthcoming.
  • Today in Vince Fumo's trial, an FBI computer expert will continue to testify about just how the Government went about finding so damn much incriminating shit on various computers.
  • Two dogs—a black pug and a Maltipom—were stolen from a Delaware County pet store last night. Police expect that the dogs, which were being sold for $1000 each, will find their way to the black market sale. (So keep your eyes out on craigslist for these breeds being sold at a bargain-basement price. Of course, if you're in the market for a dog, we obviously recommend that you find a companion from a local shelter or rescue organization, not a pet store, or even a breeder.)
  • A Lehigh Valley man has been charged with drunk driving, vehicular homicide, and other offenses in connection with the October 17 car crash that killed state Senator James Rhodes.
  • A Kensington woman has taken being a crazy cat lady to a whole new level.
  • Don't look now, sports fans, but the Sixers have gotten themselves on a nice little roll after beating the Blazers last night.
  • In other sports news: Not that Eagles fans should totally panic, but Brian Westbrook sat out of practice yesterday. And for an extra little shot of anxiety, Cardinals' wide receiver Anquan Boldin did practice yesterday, and has announced that he will play in the NFC championship game Sunday.
