
- The Mummers Parade will last about six and a half hours, beginning at 10 a.m. at Broad Street and Washington Avenue. String bands should arrive at City Hall by about 2 p.m. Whoopee.
- The city has proposed moving Police Headquarters to a vacant historic building in West Philadelphia. It would take $70 million to renovate the building, the former home of Provident Mutual Life Insurance Co. 'Cuz the City of Philadelphia has that kind of cash just layin' around, right?
- A civil lawsuit has been filed against Mayor Nutter, the City, and the Free Library in response to the closings announced for some library branches. The suit claims that the closings had already been in the works and officials are just using the budget crisis as an excuse.
- In North Philadelphia yesterday, a police officer fired at two men who had tried to run him down with a van after they were sought in connection with a robbery. It is unknown if the bullets struck either of the men as they fled the scene.
- A Southwest Philadelphia man has been robbed after a woman, posing as a postal worker came to his door with a small package, then pulled a gun on him and then signaled three men to enter the house. The thieves tied up the man and a woman who was in the home, then ripped through the house, stealing cash and valuables, before fleeing through the back door. The Postal Service has issued a statement that the female perpetrater was not an employee.
