Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

Replicants

  • We somehow missed the news that Steven Soderbergh was making a 3D rock opera out of the story of Cleopatra, with Catherine Zeta Jones as the title character and Hugh Jackman as Mark Antony, but we're totally excited to read about it now. The latest news on the project is that Ray Winstone will be playing Julius Caesar. Holy wow. Count us in!
  • AbbyShot Clothiers apparently recreates clothing from famous films. Cinematical is highlighting a replica of Rick Deckard's trench coat from Blade Runner, which is awesome, but they have plenty of other amazing stuff.
  • Ooh! New photos from Wolverine! (Via)
  • Zack and Deborah Snyder, the husband-and-wife directing/producing team behind the upcoming Watchmen movie, are still cutting the film down; they're currently at two hours and 35 minutes, but plan to make it shorter. The director's cut is set at three hours and 10 minutes.
  • Huh. Turns out that thing we posted yesterday about George Miller being officially off Justice League was completely false. Sorry, folks! We thought we were passing along confirmed news there.
  • More end of year lists! This time we have Game|Life's top 5 Xbox 360 games of 2008, Stephen King's top ten albums of 2008 (via Angela), and this year's best-selling iTunes downloads (King must have his finger on the pulse of something or other, as the top selling album, Coldplay's Viva la Vida, also made his list).
  • This rules: some colleges are now actually playing Quidditch. There's even an Intercollegiate Quidditch Association. This makes us very happy. Click through to see a video that explains how the sport was adapted for muggles.
  • Wired presents a photo gallery of geek hotels. You can stay in a Hobbit hole, or the Lars family homestead on Tatooine! Sort of.
