
- Thirty-year-old Philadelphian William Sullo III, a takeout clerk at the Salute Restaurant Bar in the 2300 block of Knights Road in Bensalem, was run down minutes after he had helped a bartender escort an angry customer out of the bar on Saturday, authorities said. Murder charges were filed yesterday against the 35-year-old man who authorities said exacted revenge for being kicked out of the bar by running Sullo down with a pickup truck.
- Bad news for Joey Chestnut: Wing Bowl, Philadelphia’s annual gluttonfest will be a local-amateurs-only event once again, WIP sports host Angelo Cataldi proclaimed this morning. Tickets for the Jan. 30 event will go on sale through ComcastTix at 10 a.m., Dec. 15.
- Three people were shot this morning. A 19-year-old woman was killed by gunmen during an apparent home invasion robbery, and a 20-year-old man and a 3-year-old were shot and critically wounded at 5 a.m. this morning on the 3300 block of Mutter Street, police said. Police said two gunmen were seen fleeing the scene of this morning’s shooting in a Crown Victoria.
- New evidence unearthed in Vincent J. Fumo’s federal corruption trial shows how in a last-minute effort to see Ed Rendell defeated in the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary, Fumo secretly pumped thousands of dollars into a barrage of newspaper ads attacking him.
- Brian Hickey, former managing editor of the Philadelphia City Paper and campaign manager for John Dougherty’s failed run for State Senate, remains in critical condition this morning following a hit-and-run in Collingswood. Hickey, 35, was walking to the PATCO station on Atlantic Ave. in Collingswood late Friday when he was struck by an unknown motorist.
