Thanksgiving Eve with Audrye Sessions

Thanksgiving Eve is widely considered the biggest bar night of the year—which means Old City is going to be a supreme clusterfuck tonight. But, if you're willing to brave that section of town and its throngs of Philadelphia's version of the bridge and tunnel crowd, you can find a safe haven at The Khyber, where Audrye Sessions will be part of a lineup that should draw a decidedly more subdued (if not be sober) crowd.

Audrye Sessions is an Oakland-based band that has recently put out an EP and is doing extensive touring to build up a fanbase before going for a full-on album. We saw the same model last year with the outstanding Paper Rival. Unfortunately, that band (for reasons we completely fail to understand) never built up the following it deserved, which we're pretty sure led to its recent demise. We hope the same thing doesn't happen to Audrye Sessions, because if the EP is a fair indication of what they can and will do going forward, this band is very, very good. The first single, the embedded "Turn Me Off," is a pretty straightforward rock song that calls to mind Oasis. And on our favorite song from the EP, a track called "Awake," we hear a bit of Radiohead circa The Bends. Could Audrye Sessions reach the heights of those bands? It'd be a lofty proposition, and probably not realistic, but you never know. And if you've got some time to swing by the Khyber tonight, maybe one day you'll get to brag, "I saw Audrye Sessions when...."

We've got to mention that the headliner of tonight's show is Person L, which is the more indie, "grown-up" project of Starting Line frontman Kenny Vasoli. We've give a bit of a listen (though only on MySpace) to Person L, and we think it'll be well worth it to stick around after Audrye Sessions to take in Vasoli's new work.
