The PAWS shelter remains packed with adoptable animals, and many pets-to-be in need of temporary fostering. Particularly, there are a number of cats and litters of kittens in need of foster homes. Fostering saves lives by freeing up space in the shelter for animals who would otherwise never get the chance at life they deserve. You can find more information on fostering here.

Casper (ID# A06334878)
We're very pleased to introduce you to our second straight deaf doggy. There's just something very zen-like about these dogs, probably because they're very mellow and not startled by sudden noises.
This week's doggy is Casper. Yes, he's deaf, but that doesn't mean he can't become a good "listener." He just needs some more training on hand signals/commands, and a human who will be patient and expressive physically, not just vocally. Casper is an active 2 year old Pitty who likes to run and play catch, so he will need a human who can give him the exercise he needs. After playtime, Casper likes to relax and cuddle. He'll need a bit of leash training in addition to that hand command training we mentioned earlier, so if you're a patient, loving human in search of a wonderful companion, you should consider heading to the shelter to meet Casper.
If you'd like to save Casper, e-mail Anna at PhillyShelterDogs@gmail.com. The adoption fee for a PAWS dog is $40, plus an $8 city license fee if you live in Philadelphia. The fee includes spaying/neutering, which will be performed before your new companion comes home with you, and microchipping. Also, make note of Casper's ID number above, and bring it with you when you go to the PAWS shelter, which is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave (map).

Deaf dogs are special. They watch you very closely and follow you everywhere. They are super endearing and if you already have a dog even better!!! Your dog can be Casper's hearing aid. :-)
