Nutter? I Don't Even Know 'er!

  • Who's ready for another good ol' casino throwdown? Well the City Council paved the way for one by passing the first approval necessary to move the Foxwoods casino to the Gallery. Michael has said that he supports "consideration" of the site, but there are about 23,000 people who disagree with him. Let the fun begin!
  • This week in futile displays of power: Michael released the names of fifty business-tax delinquents, who owe a combined $27 million to the city. Among the names on the list are one guy who's currently in jail (T. Milton Street, Sr.) and another (Neil Stein) who was jailed for—wait for it—tax evasion. And the number one delinquent is a company that doesn't even exist anymore. Good luck with your collections, Michael.
  • And while we're on the subject of the economy, Michael, along with a couple other big-city mayors, are asking for a slice of that $700 billion bailout pie to go to large cities that are struggling with the economic downturn recession disaster economic downturn.
  • With the budget struggles in full effect, Michael's looking for other ways to generate some more coin for the city. Namely, he wants to double (and eventually triple) parking meter rates. Of course, he says it's to "ease congestion." But we don't think he's fooling anybody.

I thought Neil Stein was out? Though I wouldn't be surprised if he was back in again for some other shady doings.

You're right, Angela. Correction made.
