
- Another day, another twist in the prosecution of Sen. Vincent Fumo. Yesterday, federal prosecutors asked the judge to allow them to inform the jury of a previous Fumo misstep wherein he participated in a scheme to put local Democratic operatives on the state payroll.
- A woman in her 20s was found dead in a West Oak Lane grocery yesterday afternoon. A store employee is expected to be charged with the shooting. The details surrounding the incident remain murky. The departed is the city’s 294th homicide victim this year.
- Add snowplowing to the laundry list of budgetary cuts imposed by Mayor Michael Nutter. However, Nutter implied that it wouldn’t be of any real consequence due to global warming.
- The Eagles lost a heartbreaker last night to the New York Giants. They challenged a touchdown alleging that the runner fumbled the football prior to breaking the plane of the endzone. The Eagles lost the challenge, giving the Giants a touchdown and a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
- Dozens of citizens rallied yesterday to support the Fire Department’s Engine 39 in Roxborough, one of the five department’s being closed by yet another of Mayor Nutter’s budgetary cutbacks. Engine 39 services approximately 60,000 households in addition to the neighborhood business district.
