We Told You It Was Going to Be Big

But we never imagined it would be quite this big when we mentioned it last week!

too bad it was a FOAM wrecking ball and trap doors. lame.

also too bad they didn't even drop any candy. even more lame.

Oh man. That really is lame. I was hoping (although I think it would have been structurally impossible) that it would really be made of chicken wire and papier-mache like a real piñata.

And no candy? WTF?

it was a reinforced steel structure, about 52,000 pounds. definitely a pi-ÑOT-a.

did you not hear? everyone waited for hours (children included) and then they told everyone to just go home.

We heard a much more positive spin, from Carnival:

Today Carnival Cruise Lines broke the record for WORLD'S LARGEST PIÑATA in downtown Philly. Over 10,000 people came to pay their respects to ‘Pinatazilla’. The crowds went so wild that the climactic breaking of the piñata was put on hold by local police. We can only imagine what the 8000 lbs of candy inside would have looked like.

first, you had to stand in line in order to get a wrist bracelet to get into the pinata area. that line was hella long. so we decided to just stand outside the fence and watch the pinata distruction.

they said it would break around noon. then at 12:05, they said "12:45." then at 1, they said "1:30." then they opened the gates and people went in and no one was checking wristbands, so we went in. and stood around, for a long time.

then the police on motorcycles came in and told everyone to stay behind the orange cones. then somehow everyone rushed the pinata. and THEN the police pushed everyone back to the orange cones again. but this time, one lady next to me picked up the orange cone and moved it in front of her and her children (classy).

we got bored around 3 and talked to one of the crew members who said "we will DEFINITELY do it before 4:30, but if you want to leave now you have to wait for the police to open the gates." she also told us about the reinforced steel, trap doors, foam ball, and how it was all supposed to be filmed for a carnival commercial and the reason why it wasn't happening was because they couldn't control the crowd. which is why they called the motorcycle cops.

so we went to one gate and the guy said "i'm not opening it, go across the lot." well, on the other side of the lot, there were three police men and one metal folding chair pushing against the fence gate to keep the mob of people from coming inside. they said "absolutely not, we can not let you out this way." so as we're going to find a third exit, some lady on a bullhorn starts telling everyone that unfortunately they will not be breaking the pinata today and they told everyone to leave.

boy, was the crowd MAD.

Wow, that is a colossal suck. Thanks for giving us the lowdown, miss bee.
