What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend.

Zack and Miri Make a PornoWhat Just Happened
Art Linson adapted his own memoir into this comedy about a middle-aged Hollywood producer trying to juggle his actual life with an outrageous series of crises in his day job. Barry Levinson directs and Robert De Niro stars along with Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, and Robin Wright Penn. It sounds like it has all the elements for success, but reviews are mixed; apparently the film "lacks satirical bite." Huh.

Breakfast with Scot
An adaptation of Michael Downing's novel, about a sports commentator named Eric who's living happily with his boyfriend Sam until Sam announces they're going to be temporary guardians of an 11-year-old boy named Scot. Scot is a swishy sissy who loves scented hand cream and all things pink. Sam and Eric are disturbed by his flamboyance and try to push him toward a more acceptable pastime: hockey. But after his disastrous first game, Eric begins to rethink the compromises he's made in his own life in order to be accepted. Sounds interesting, but critics are giving it mixed reviews, calling it well-intentioned but predictable.

Good Dick
Marianna Palka wrote, directed, and stars in this quirky relationship comedy about the weird relationship that develops between a lonely young girl who walks into her local independent video store looking for an erotic film, and the clerk behind the counter who's immediately smitten by her. He's a bit of a creep, and she's continually shooting him down, but it looks like from the poster that they eventually end up in bed together. This is yet another movie getting mixed reviews, and we can't say it sounds like our cup of tea.

Changeling
Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort is based on true events that occurred in 1920s LA. Angelina Jolie plays Christine, a woman whose son is abducted. The corrupt LAPD claims to have found her son, but she knows the child is not hers. She's slandered by the authorities, but refuses to back down. The only one who believes her is a benevolent local activist played by John Malkovich. It's a bunch of talented people and a fascinating and disturbing story, but yet again reviews are mixed, so we're not sure what to think.

Ashes of Time: Redux
This adaptation of Louis Cha's novel The Eagle-Shooting Heroes is directed by Wong Kar-Wai and tells the story of Ouyang Feng, who has lived in the desert hiring skilled swordsmen to carry out contract killings ever since the woman he loved rejected him. He's become pitiless and cynical, but his encounters with friends, clients, and future enemies make him conscious of his solitude. The film stars Li Bai, Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, and Tony Leung. It's a highly stylized, beautifully filmed, extremely well-reviewed martial arts movie from Wong Kar-Wai. You better believe we recommend this one. We can't wait to see it.

RocknRolla
Guy Ritchie goes back to his crime comedy roots with a film about a Russian mobster who sets up a real estate scam that generates millions of pounds. Various members of London's criminal underworld crawl out of the woodwork to pursue their share of the fortune. The film stars Gemma Arterton, Gerard Butler, Ludacris, Thandie Newton, Jeremy Piven, and Tom Wilkinson. It's not getting extremely positive reviews, but that's a great cast, and we love Ritchie's crime comedies. We'd see it!

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Kevin Smith's latest stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as a couple of friends who decide to make a porno to combat their rising debt, and in the process discover their underlying feelings for each other. This is yet another movie getting mixed reviews, but we love Smith, Rogen, and Banks, and plus it looks like from the ads that the movie they make is a porn version of Star Wars, and all that taken together makes this a must-see film for us.

Most Likely to Suck: The Haunting of Molly Hartley
A suspense thriller about a young woman and something evil that lurks inside her. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she's about to discover the truth of what she is destined to become. Sounds like another cliche horror thriller to us, and it wasn't screened for critics. We'll skip it.
