Every once in awhile, you hear a song that grabs your attention from the opening chord and holds it for a solid three or four minutes. A few weeks ago, I was working, with my XM radio online supplying my requisite background noise, when I had that experience. A song stopped me in my tracks, mid-sentence of what I was writing. And when it was over, it was a reaffirmation (one that I need every now and then) that there is some really good rock music out there that unfortunately finds itself labeled as "emo."
The song in question was "Feel Good Drag" by Anberlin (MySpace). So we gave Anberlin a bit more of a listen, and we were glad to hear that "Feel Good Drag" isn't their only really strong song—something that we find is often not the case with lesser edgy emo bands. Anberlin's range shows through on their major label debut, New Surrender, which they're on the road supporting now. And you can find out for yourself how good Anberlin is when the band comes to The Troc tomorrow night. So if you're looking for something to keep your adrenaline up through the weekend after today's victory parade, there you have it.
