- Voter-rights advocates and election officials argued yesterday in federal court over how to keep lines moving if Pennsylvania voting machines break down on Election Day. The Inquirer takes a look at how the Obama and McCain campaigns faired in the bad weather; Obama went ahead with an outdoor rally in Chester, despite the rain and wind. The latest Franklin & Marshall/Daily News poll shows Obama winning in Pennsylvania by 13 points. Meanwhile, traditionally Republican Chester County could go blue.
- The latest on the two big local trials: jurors in the Fort Dix terrorism case heard some disturbing taped conversations. The Inquirer takes a look at the Fumo corruption case from the perspective of Fumo's girlfriend, 50-year-old dress shop owner Carolyn Zinni. Other cases going to trial soon are the April shooting death of a 33-year-old man outside a North Philadelphia mosque during a robbery attempt, and the death of a 1-year-old girl from injuries sustained when her father rammed the car in which she was riding (the father is charged with murder and related offenses).
- The Daily News is taking a look at the modern face of local hate groups, including white nationalists and the New Black Panther Party. This is accompanied by the news that part of the state's hate-crimes law has recently been repealed due to a technicality.
- Another teen ran away from the new Youth Study Center Friday morning, but he was apprehended about two blocks away less than 30 minutes later. Still, nearby residents are not pleased.
- A brawl at University City High School yesterday morning ended with 10 students arrested for disorderly conduct.
- Because of the economy and high fuel prices, airlines are trimming schedules more than usual this Thanksgiving. They'll be grounding hundreds of flights here and across the country Thanksgiving afternoon and evening.
