- On November 4th, voters will be asked to abolish the Fairmount Park Commission and merge it with the city Recreation Department, placing the whole under the mayor as a standard city department. The Inquirer looks at some of the arguments for and against.
- Two cops were injured yesterday afternoon when their patrol car crashed during a police chase in Southwest Philadelphia. Meanwhile, a two-car crash in southern Chester County on Saturday left two passengers dead and the two drivers injured. The drivers were wearing seatbelts; the passengers were not.
- Police are tracking an armed group of "urban street terrorists" that has targeted three area Dunkin' Donuts locations in broad daylight.
- Jury selection in the federal corruption trial of Vince Fumo and his aide resumed yesterday and will continue today. Jury selection also went on yesterday for the case of the woman accused of shooting a volunteer secretary at a rural church in Upper Bucks County. And the Fort Dix terrorism trial opened.
- There was a one-alarm fire at a Rittenhouse hotel and condominium building last night. It was under control in about 20 minutes, and no one was injured, but the streets surrounding the square became snarled with crews, equipment, and spectators.
- Three rookie City Council members have rolled out a 15 point cost-savings plan to help with the city's budget crisis.
