On this day in 1967, the Outer Space Treaty went into effect. Since then, over 90 countries have agreed that our planet's nuclear annihilation will have to originate on the surface thereof rather than from orbiting weapons of mass destruction.
FAERIECON 2008 PRESENTS: GOOD FAERIES' BALL
FaerieCon 2008 is just what it sounds like. Starting today and lasting through the weekend, hoards of faeries will descend upon the city as the West Coast festival Faerieworlds comes to the east. Artists, craftsmen (craftswomen? craftsfaeries?), musicians and others who work creatively in the faerie realm will be giving lectures, selling merchandise, playing live music, and mingling in the Convention Center, among other venues. Weekend passes are available, as are separate tickets for individual events, like the Good and Bad Faerie Balls, to be held tonight and tomorrow night at the Trocadero. The Good Faeries' Ball will include performances by Priscilla Hernandez, Woodland, and Omnia. Check the web site for the rest of the weekend's faerie-related goings-on.
WHO: Faeries, duh.
WHERE: The Trocadero, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 7:30pm.
HOW MUCH: $28. They're still hooking up the advance discount, so get 'em fast if you're interested.
PHILLIES VS DODGERS IN GAME 2 OF THE NL CHAMPIONSHIP
You're watching again tonight, right? Start time is 4:35pm, and if you will be at the stadium, congratulations. If you want to be, but don't have tickets yet, good fracking luck trying to get some. We know that some of you may have to actually work right up until the clock strikes 5:00pm, so get a radio ready or turn on the television in the break room and find something to do within eyeshot of it. Depending upon how miserly your employer is with internet access, you may be able to listen to the game online. Either way, it will prove to be a rowdy Friday night as the Phillies, coming off a 3-2 win last night, try to keep ahead of L.A. in their quest for the National League Championship.
WHO: Phillies fans.
WHERE: Technically, Citizens Bank Park, 10th Street and Pattison Avenue (map). But you can have some game wherever you are.
WHEN: 4:35pm.
HOW MUCH: Way too much. Free to listen on 1210AM or stare at a TV (Fox) in your (read: this Phillyist's) favorite local bar.
