Can't Miss This!

October 6, 1889 was the day on which Thomas Edison first displayed his moving picture device to the world. On the same day in 1927, The Jazz Singer became the first popular talking movie. And on the same day in 2008, you're going to The Troc to see Iron Man.

ironman_oct062008.jpgMOVIE MONDAY AT THE TROC PRESENTS: IRON MAN
If you didn't catch the screening Geekadelphia did in conjunction with (and at) Indy Hall, you need to go to the Troc tonight and take in the power and the glory of this rarest of the feats, a comic tale translated satisfactorily to the big screen. Remember that the Troc encourages people to dress the part for these events, but also keep in mind that they are upstairs events held at a bar, and a drunk guy in an iron suit is hurt guy in a law suit just waiting to happen.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Upstairs @ The Trocadero, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 6pm; Movie starts at 8pm
HOW MUCH: $3 to get in; but it goes toward a drink or a snack!

THE SHUBIN THEATER PRESENTS: THE COMIC VS AUDIENCE COMEDY SHOW
Comic Vs Audience are teaming up with Philly Improv Theater to bring you an evening of comedy. to which you may bring your own beer. And that's not a joke. The combination of the tried-and-true $5 cover and the BYOB status means that you can achieve tip-top heckling shape for a fraction of the cost, in a fraction of the time. More importantly, though, you gotta get up pretty early in the morning to out-funny these guys. Seriously, their day-of post about the show tonight went up at 5:47 this morning. The list of tellers of the funny includes Tim Ryan, Luke Giordano, Doogie Horner and Chip Chantry. That's a lot of Comic Vs Audience! Oh, and did we mention you can bring your own beer. Because you can.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: Shubin Theater, 4th and Bainbridge Streets (map)
WHEN: 8pm
HOW MUCH: $5. Get 'em here, or at the door 30 minutes prior to showtime. Tickets reserved online are held at the door until 5 minutes prior to showtime, then, they explode! No, they don't. But they are given to people in the stand-by line and your late ass misses out on some serious comedy. Get it: serious...comedy. It's just a matter of time before they ask us to get up on that stage. Really, it is.

Isn't it?

Contrary to this post, heckling is not permitted at the comedy show tonight.

Also, computers have this awesome feature where you can control when a post is published. Needless to say, we are certainly still in bed when most of our stuff goes up.

K Thx!

Disclaimer: Phillyist does not condone heckling.

By "heckling", I meant enjoying the show and not taking the the heckling comment seriously. Apologies for that misunderstanding. Also, aware of the future-dating feature. Again, not meant seriously. Again, apologies. Hope the show went well!
