• A mother and daughter prostitute team in Wissinoming, who promised to "double your pleasure" in Craigslist ads for their services, were arrested yesterday by an undercover police officer.
• At a defendant's sentencing hearing yesterday in a robbery and attempted rape case, the woman who had been the victim of the attack began hyperventilating in court and then collapsed in an anteroom. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and later released. The defendant was given the maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years in state prison.
• An eastern Pennsylvania high school is dealing with an outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.
• A Philadelphia man convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1986 was ordered freed yesterday after a federal judge ruled that prosecutors had taken too long to retry him for a killing in a nightclub.
• The Citizens Crime Commission of the Delaware Valley released a composite drawing yesterday of a man who raped a young woman in a lot in Northern Liberties. It also announced a $2,000 reward in the case. In another rape case, two teenage boys charged with raping a 15-year-old girl before she died of alcohol poisoning were ordered yesterday to be tried as adults by Family Court Judge Lori Dumas-Brooks.
• SugarHouse has proposed changes in its casino design to match the city's waterfront plan and stave off Mayor Nutter's demand that it move from its chosen site in Fishtown/Northern Liberties.
• The owner of that Lehigh County kennel that was raided the other day was charged yesterday with animal cruelty and his state kennel license was revoked.
• Local jewelers are having a tough time due to the current economic crisis, and have only a bad holiday season to look forward to.
• The new judge presiding over state Senator Fumo's federal corruption trial told prosecutors and defense lawyers in a closed-door meeting yesterday that he wants to resume the trial on October 20th.
