Another resource to give you some more history directly from PACCA/PAWS and help you take action.

This is VERY distressing. Please take a moment to read and join the Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia. We must raise our voices to save the approx. 30,000 animals that this new contract is setting out to "dispose of". Please help our animals.

Thanks for the info. My understanding was not that they were separate entities, but separate branches of the same entity, i.e. that PAWS is the public name of the PACCA adoption operation, and that PAWS is donor-funded (so that things like publicity and overhead expenses for getting the adoptable animals out there in the public eye are funded by donors rather than by the city contract). Sorry if I wasn't clear, or if I haven't stated the PACCA-PAWS relationship 100% accurately.

Small clarification. PAWS is PACCA. There is no handing over of animals, all adoptions are done by PACCA, on PACCA contracts and the money goes to PACCA. PAWS is not an independent organization or separate 501c3. But that doesn't take away any value that the volunteers contribute. Hopefully, no matter where the contract lands, how much it is for and however it reads volunteers will continue to be there for the animals sake. If the contract does go to the PSPCA the volunteers should go and actually help get those pit bulls adopted. From checking the dogs the PSPCA has up for adoption it seems to me that they do have a lot of pit bulls no matter what their motives for putting them on petfinder. In the meantime, we must all urge the city to take animal control seriously. It could be your pet who winds up in a shelter!

Just to clarify, the quote Karina referenced doesn't appear in the RFP itself, but on the city website where the RFP is posted. (Follow the "contract opportunities" link, and then it's reference number 21080903113923.)

Thank you Phillyist for bring this to light and being a true companion for the city's forgotten animals.

**We need to make a stand for our city's animals.

"Services include but are not limited to operating a shelter, picking up all unwanted pets from residents, accepting and humanely disposing of up to 30,000 unwanted pets per year"

After reading that sentence in the RFP I'm at a loss for words.
