Foodsday Tuesday: Prost!

Many Phillyist staffers were sad to see Ludwig's replaced by Time. Sure, it was a little sketchy, but it was a real German beer hall, and we loved it.

Fortunately for those of us still trying to figure out how absinthe could trump hefeweizen, Foobooz is reporting that a new German beer hall, Brauhaus Schmitz, will be opening up on South Street, just in time for Beer Week 2009. Married owners Doug Hager and Kelly Schmitz have spent a good amount of time in Germany, and even spent time slinging beers there, so we have no doubt that the new establishment will equal our old stomping grounds. It may even trump it: Hager and Schmitz plan on selling bratwurst by the meter.

Beer and brats? We don't suppose the opening could be advanced by a few months... To, say, tomorrow?
