Celebrating the Forbidden

banned books ticketI loved Ray Bradbury's writing from the first time I read The Martian Chronicles, and once I picked up Fahrenheit 451, the images of those burning books never quite left me. In these bizarre times, I'm grateful that the Rosenbach is marking Banned Books Week with Authors of Mischief, a juried artist exhibit featuring contemporary artists' books on themes related to banned books, censorship, and control.

The exhibit will be on display at the Rosenbach starting tomorrow and run through Sunday, October 5, then will move from there to the main branch of the Free Library from October 14th through December 5th.

And mark your calendars now for a special artists' reception and a reading by friends of the museum of banned and censored books on October 3, from 5:30 to 7:30. Readers include Siobhan Reardon (the newly appointed president of the Free Library), Nora Berger-Green of the National Constitution Center, and Bill Adair of the Pew Charitable Trusts.
