(Because we were.) DigPhilly let us know today that SEPTA will be offering free rides on any train leaving from or arriving in Center City after 6:30PM tonight and tomorrow night. This is to celebrate SEPTA's new extended hours (until 2:47AM!) on the R5 Paoli-Thorndale, R6 Norristown, and R7 Trenton lines. That means no rushing back fron New York to make your connection in Trenton and no leaving Manayunk before your favorite band takes the stage. It also means that your boring friends on the Main Line who always leave the party early can hang out with you until last call, no excuses. Why shouldn't we be celebrating along with SEPTA?

Across the Ist-a-Verse

Umm, the late-night trains are a great idea except they're not really late enough. You *will* have to miss last call in Manayunk if you want to catch the R6 back to Center City on a Friday night (and what's the point staying out past one if you have to miss last call?). A train departs Manayunk Station for CC at 1:59 am. And for those of us who actually live out here but like to go barhopping in CC, the last train home on Friday is only 12:30 am. On Saturday, the last train to town from Manayunk is at 1:00, and the last one to Manayunk from town is 1:43. At least they're trying. Usually SEPTA is all about reducing service and increasing fares.
