Philadelphia Weirdness

Flick through any book pertaining to Philadelphia's most haunted locations and you'll uncover a veritable feast of local weirdness and be truly amazed at the amount of spooks, spectres and spirits which allegedly haunt some of these mysterious places.

Bolton Mansion in Levittown has several eerie ghosts. One is a young girl who has been seen peeking from many of the windows which leer from the facade of the building. Her fleeting form seems to playfully run from pane to pane, but what or whom she is looking for remains unknown. However, another female apparition said to roam the place is reportedly looking eternally for a lost child, so could there be a connection between the two wandering ghosts?

The General Wayne Inn, which dates back to 1704 and is located in Merion, is home to a procession of spooks, one of these being a Hessian soldier who was said to have been buried in the wall of the inn. Excavations were halted after two days when builders attempted to demolish the area.

People such as psychics and reporters join the list of customers and employees who've experienced peculiar activity at the inn. The basement alone is said to be haunted by at least five spirits, including an Indian, a small boy, and two women. But the most spectacular ghost of the General Wayne Inn is that of author Edgar Allan Poe, who has been seen writing. On one occasion a window spook is even said to have even grabbed a passer-by.

Throughout the Fall we'll be exploring more of Philly's eeriest and spook-ridden places....
