Performances: Waitstaff Wit' (future performances)
I have never seen a Fringe show before. Call me uncultured, but I just never had the chance to make it to one. So, I was excited to see last night's show at L'Etage.
Waitstaff Wit'
Waitstaff Wit' is an evening of enlightening monologues from a sketch comedy troupe. Their show reminded me of Saturday Night Live, but better. The show opened with Starzina Starfish-Browne, played by Eric Singel. Mrs. (or, err Mr.) Browne narrated the whole show, creating comedic pauses between sketches. Mrs. Browne also provided daily horoscope readings, and blatantly displayed her hatred of all things Virgo. The hour-long show kept its pace nicely, with each sketch—eight total—moving swiftly into the next. There was never a moment of "is this over yet?" In fact, it was more like, "give me more!" My favorite sketch was "Toothpaste," written and performed by Matt Lally. The sketch involved a dentist by the name of Michael Flatly—not to be confused with the Irish step dancer—and his hatred of Crest toothpaste, a hatred brought on by the neglect of his father, who during his romantic trysts claimed to be out “buying toothpaste.” Another favorite was "Sound Bitten," written by Chris McGovern and performed by Sharon Geller. Geller appeared to be one of the more seasoned comedians in the group. She offered her take on the upcoming election by stating her opinions about “the old man” and “that bi-racial man.” The show didn’t focus on elaborate set designs or costumes. Instead, performers dressed in regular clothes and the only piece of set design involved a basket of laundry. If you’re looking for a fun night out with a few laughs, Waitstaff Wit' is a fun show to see.

Interesting read...better than SNL when it first started? anyway....
