CinePhillyist
What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend.
Most Likely to Rule: I Served the King of England
Czech New Wave filmmaker Jiri Menzel's latest is a black comedy set in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s, and telling the rise-and-fall story of an ambitious waiter. Could be fun, and the reviews are certainly good.

Most Likely to Suck: Bangkok Dangerous
At first glance, this American remake of the 1999 Thai action film of the same name would seem to have a better chance of being good than other, similar American remakes of foreign films for the simple reason that it's directed by the same pair who made the original: Danny and Oxide Pang. The problem is, this Phillyist didn't even like the original all that much. Also, this version has Nicolas Cage playing a ruthless hitman who falls in love. Besides the fact that the hitman with a heart of gold cliche is getting as old as the hooker with a heart of gold cliche, Cage is not very good at pretending to be a bad-ass, and most of his movies lately have sucked. Add to that the fact that most critics gave this one a thumbs down and you have yourself a recipe for this week's Most Likely to Suck.

Everybody Wants to Be Italian
Jake is still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend even though it's eight years since they split up and she's now married with three kids. His friends, fed up with his inability to move on, set him up on a blind date with a beautiful Italian woman. Certain she would never consider dating a non-Italian, Jake takes a crash course in faking it. Sounds like a pretty cheesy romantic comedy premise to us, and indeed the critics are not pleased. Stay away from this one, too.
