Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday
A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

- The other day we posted a link where Battlestar Galactica's Tigh and Roslin were compared to McCain and Palin, but now we've discovered there's a whole site devoted to the similarities, and to promoting the Tigh/Roslin ticket. (Via Kevin)
- Writer-director Sheldon Lettich has been tapped by producer Alexander Nevsky to get to work on Hercules: The Beginning.
- Check out the powerful first trailer for Milk, Gus van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic, starring Sean Penn.
- Cinematical has some exclusive pics from The Brothers Bloom, writer-director Rian Johnson's follow-up to Brick.
- Some concept art for the Green Lantern movie.
- Damon Lindelof, producer of Lost and Star Trek, talks about what would have to go into turning Stephen King's Dark Tower series into movies, and how he'd like to do it himself, but not right now.
- Tom Petty's daughter made a documentary about Paris Hilton called Paris, Not France and it's the hot ticket at the Toronto International Film Festival now that Hilton's people kicked up a fuss and got them to cancel all but one screening of the film.
- The Dragonball: The Movie blog has some new pics from the film. (Via)
- The poster for Zack and Miri Make a Porno got the thumbs down from the MPAA, but you can check it out over on EW. (Via)
- Joystiq has picked its favorite 15 cosplayers from PAX, and is now asking readers to vote on the best. Here's video of The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets playing their own song on Rock Band at PAX (via), and photos of their performance with real musical instruments. Finally, Game|Life has a collection of all its hands-on video game reports from the expo.
- Four new tracks from Guitar Hero: World Tour have been revealed, and it's also been announced that three of the classic tracks on the set list have been re-recorded by the original bands, apparently just for the game.
- The responsible way to get rid of your old console is to donate it for charity. (Via)
- Comcast has added a video download store to its Fancast online video site. Check it out here.
- So, have you given Google's new browser Chrome a try yet? We're using it as we write this! If you're still on the fence, check out this list of features Chrome has that your browser doesn't. (Via)
- There's an Apple press conference scheduled for next Tuesday evening with the title "Let's Rock," and iTunes will apparently play a part. In response to this announcement, Kevin Rose has a new rumor for us: the next version of iTunes might feature something called Genius which would auto-create playlists of songs that work together from your library, and alert you to songs available from the iTunes Music Store that you probably want. We hope this is not true, because iTunes is already a huge memory hog and definitely does not need to have more processes running in the background.
- Calculating that it is no longer "too soon," Sci Fi Wire picks the top 10 movies in which New York gets destroyed.
- Well, Guillermo del Toro's career is sure going well these days! He's now booked with films through 2017, including remakes of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Slaughterhouse-Five.
- Apparently they make trailers for books now. Here's one for Neal Stephenson's Anathem. It's a little silly, but also vaguely intriguing.
- We already knew that Akuma appears in Street Fighter IV, but apparently it's also possible to make him playable.
- We might see price cuts to the current Xbox 360 lineup on September 7th.
- Ooh! You can download the overture from Diablo III for free on iTunes!
- Plans are already being formulated for Ghost Rider 2.
- Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman says there have been talks about doing a darker, live-action TMNT film that would be a reboot to the series. We love TMNT and all, but it's going to be pretty hard to do a serious, dark, live-action version of the thing. No matter how you spin it, there's got to be man-sized talking turtles involved, and that's an inherently silly concept.
- The Movie Blog has posted a YouTube video of what it calls the craziest fight scene ever. The fighting itself is not all that incredible, but it is pretty impressive that the thing is a four minute long tracking shot—one take, no cuts—and no special effects or wires are used. Definitely click through and read the amazing story of how it was filmed.
- There's something weirdly ironic about the fact that Hilary Swank is supposedly going to gain 20 to 30 pounds for her role in French Women Don't Get Fat.
