Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up
The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

- This ad for The Powerpuff Girls is also a brilliant and hilarious parody of Super Friends. Enjoy! (Via)
- Obama has many famous supporters—even emo! (Via Jill)
- PW tracks the sad decline of Nic Cage by listing six films in which he just didn't give a flying... well, you know. (Via Sarah)
- Well, you can forget about the Tarzan reboot being a good movie; they gave it to Stephen Sommers. Ugh.
- Hey, that looks like... what is she... Oh, my. (Via Sarah)
- There was apparently some question as to whether Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler might have been given the closing spot at the Venice Film Festival because there were problems with the film, but apparently it was just because Aronofsky was awaiting a completed song from Bruce Springsteen for the end of the film. Supposedly the song is very appropriate and moving. In other Springsteen movie news, he's been written into a very brief scene in Judd Apatow's Funny People as someone "who attempts to deliver some spiritual guidance." No word yet on whether he's actually accepted the role, though.
- You definitely need to watch the hilarious red band trailer for Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Seriously, click through, right now.
- Tim Roth is apparently going to play a magical angel who gets nursed back to health by a kid who feeds him Chinese food and beer. Nice work if you can get it!
- Mark Millar recently talked to some folks about the sequel to Wanted, and his ideas for an epic Superman trilogy. Click through for text and a video.
- The legal battles over Watchmen are continuing, and could lead to a trial in April or June of next year. If the release of the film is held up until the trial is over, we might not see the movie until 2010. But wtf is this all about anyway? The Movie Blog has the info.
- The rumor that Russell Crowe was going to play Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes was debunked by Ritchie himself. Ah, well.
- Sadly, Don LaFontaine, a man whose voice we all know well from many a movie trailer, has passed away at the age of 68. Cinematical has a pretty great video profile of the man.
- Rock Band 2 has a party-friendly "No Fail" option that allows you to play through an entire song without getting failed out part way through due to your complete inability to hit that one button after hitting that other button. Guitar Hero: World Tour will have no such option. Which either means it's more hardcore, or it's not as cool.
- Even more from PAX 2008! Joystiq describes their hands-on experience with Spore at the convention, and offers a look at the entire Fallout 3 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide, Pocket Reference Edition. Game|Life has the audio from the game criticism panel, and a gallery of the 10 things you should've bought at PAX. There's also video of the Thickets playing PAX, video of their song in Rock Band, and the details on how they ended up in the game.
- The Smashing Pumpkins will be debuting a new single as part of a downloadable Smashing Pumpkins track pack for Guitar Hero: World Tour.
- Watch as Gremlins invade a DVR, and a bunch of famous movies. (The weird video errors that happen early on are on purpose.) (Via)
- Lee Mathews of Download Squad offers his first impressions of Google's new Chrome internet browser.
- Download Squad also offers us ten essential web apps for bloggers.
- Underwire gives us the latest on Dr. Horrible, including the news that the soundtrack is now available from iTunes; fans will be able to submit their own video applications for The Evil League of Evil, three of which will be included on the forthcoming DVD; and more web comics are on the way.
- Game|Life's latest video is a WiiWare Buyer's Guide, which is something we have actively been looking for, so we're pretty excited. There's also a hands-on report about upcoming WiiWare release Gradius Rebirth.
- There's an award for the best Tweets now: The Twitties.
- One-of-a-kind comics collectibles are being auctioned off to save the house where Jerry Siegel came up with the idea for Superman. You can find the auction at Ordinary People Change the World.
- Nintendo Wii Fanboy picks its five favorite modded Wii consoles.
- Japanese researchers have found a way to use focused ultrasonic waves to produce virtual objects in mid-air. The idea is that the process might be integrated into video games in the future. Awesome. (Via Sarah)
