Nutter? I Don't Even Know 'er!

  • Michael's been living large at the Democratic National Convention. Apparently, Hillary Clinton heard about our mayor's wicked mic skills, because he was asked to serve as emcee of Hillary's pre-roll call reception, where she announced to her supporters that she would release her delegates to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation.
  • Speaking of the convention, we really hope Michael's staffers are having a good time and getting our money's worth for their little excursion. It looks especially bad that Michael brought three staffers to the convention, paid for by Philadelphia taxpayers, when Governor Rendell paid for the one—yes, one—staffer that he brought with him out of his campaign funds.
  • Meanwhile, back home, the proposed Unisys sign on Liberty Two—which Michael supported—will not come to be. Michael sad, lovers of the Philadelphia skyline happy. Hopefully, Unisys will still relocate its headquarters to the building.
  • Word of the second lawsuit filed in the wake of Danieal Kelly's death—this one a class action alleging that DHS is an "unsafe agency for children"—reached Michael at the convention, and he was pretty pissed off about it. Michael called the suit, which was filed on behalf of a mother of eight(!) and the father of one (we dread finding out the actual number of different fathers her eight kids have), "opportunistic." Sounds about right. (Oh, and bonus: The lawyer who filed this suit is one of the lawyers who filed the Danieal Kelly suit that caused such a stir a couple weeks ago.)
