Whiz of the Web: Monday Meat Slices

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.

Guitar Hero

  • A new study supposedly suggests that dogs have adapted over the years to communicate with humans, and even developed a moral compass.
  • "In a first for the television industry, Fox will stream the series premiere of its upcoming supernatural drama Fringe and the season premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles online at the same time they air on television, but only for users on college campuses." Damn kids these days don't know how good they have it. Why, back in our day, we could only watch a show if it was actually being aired on TV at the time!
  • Supposedly Scottish actor Kevin McKidd told a Dublin radio station that he has been approached to star in an upcoming revamp of the Highlander franchise.
  • This poster for Toy Story 3 is not particularly exciting, but we're sure the folks at Pixar have great things in store for us.
  • Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov recently outlined the studio's plans for its DC Comics properties. They're adopting Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. The studio will announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, its focused on releasing four comic book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. And as usual they've taken the wrong lesson from their success with The Dark Knight, and plan to make all future films as dark as they possible can. The reason Dark Knight is good is not because it's really dark (and apparently it's certainly not because it's scientifically accurate); it's good because a group of talented people got together, took the material seriously, and made something artful with it. It's dark because Batman happens to be a dark character, not because dark movies are good in and of themselves. If they make a dark Superman movie just for the sake of being dark, it's going to be stupid. Superman is not a dark character. Okay, we'll get off our geek high horse now.
  • Rumor is that the higher-ups at Fox are not too impressed with the footage they've seen so far from the Dragonball movie, and they're seriously debating shutting the whole thing down.
  • Some video bloggers, sick of vitriolic commenters on YouTube, went out and formed their own invitation-only video site called VloggerHeads. Underwire profiles the site and some of its users, and takes a look at the reaction from YouTube users. And speaking of internet video startups being profiled on Underwire, check out their article on Strike TV.
  • The Wii version of the Quantum of Solace video game will feature Zapper support, online multiplayer, and an exclusive 4-player split-screen local multiplayer.
  • Wii Fanboy takes a hard look at a new option for recharging your Wii Remotes: Penguin United's 4X Quad Charge Station, which, if you couldn't tell from the name, allows you to charge four Remotes at the same time.
