TelePhillyist
What's new and/or interesting on TV this week.
The Democratic National Convention (Mon-Thu, 6PM-12AM, CNN; Mon-Thu, 8PM-11PM, WHYY; Mon-Thu, 5PM-12AM, CSPAN; Mon-Thu, 7PM-2AM, MSNBC; Mon-Thu, 9:45PM-11:15PM, Fox News; Mon-Thu, 10PM-11PM, CBS; Mon-Thu, 10PM-11PM, ABC; Mon-Thu, 10PM-11PM, NBC)
If you're interested in seeing coverage of the DNC, you have your choice of channels and lengths of programming. Good luck!
The Man with No Name (Mon, 8PM-2:30AM, AMC)
AMC is playing the two better known installments in the Man with No Name trilogy: A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. This isn't the best way to see them—with commercials on TV—but they're still great movies, and definitely something fun to flip to if the DNC gets too boring.
MythBusters (Wed, 9PM-10PM, Discovery Channel)
They're taking on a very interesting myth this time: whether or not the moon landing in July 1969 could have been faked. They try simulating low gravity on a soundstage, and faking footage of flags and footprints.
NFL Preseason Football: Jets at Eagles (Thu, 6:30PM-9:30PM, ABC)
Brett Favre comes to town, playing with his new team. Hopefully the Birds will give him a warm Philly welcome. (And just so we're clear, that involves shoving his face in the dirt.) If this game isn't enough for you, keep in mind there's plenty of college football on TV throughout the week this week.
Grizzly Man Diaries (Fri, 9PM-10PM, Animal Planet)
Most of us are aware of the story of Timothy Treadwell from the news, and from Werner Herzog's fascinating documentary, Grizzly Man. But it looks like his video diaries have now also been turned into a TV series for Animal Planet.
Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire (Fri, 10PM-11PM, History Channel)
Taking a look at an invasion of Rome by the Germanic Cimbri in the second century. The Cimbri were eventually defeated by General Gaius Marius.
