Whiz of the Web: Friday Fried Onions
A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

- A gallery of photos of San Fran's annual "Altered Barbie" exhibition. Some could theoretically be considered NSFW, but c'mon, it's just a doll. (Via Sarah)
- Three men have scheduled a press conference this afternoon in Palo Alto, California where they say they'll reveal the details of their discovery of what they claim is a dead Bigfoot. But apparently even other Bigfoot hunters doubt their claims. Still, they could just be jealous they don't have a dead Bigfoot of their very own.
- Visit FaceTheGlory.com today and you can get a coupon for a free McDonalds Southern Style Biscuit or Sandwich. Be aware it's valid today through September 1st only, and only if it's printed in color. (Via)
- A couple of amusing stories are in the news today involving McCain and music. First, read him defend his preference for ABBA (which he somehow uses as an excuse to mention yet again that he was shot down by a missile—for God's sake, man, we've all heard the story by now! Let it go!), then check out the details of Jackson Browne's lawsuit against the McCain campaign for using his song in their ads without his permission.
- Slashfood reveals that one Philadelphia-based advertising agency has been maybe having a little too much fun lately, what with them all posing in period outfits for a Mad Men-inspired photo, and putting together a stop-motion animated video to celebrate their guac off today. (Via Sarah)
- Apparently there's a fight brewing over whether or not to cut The Punisher down to a PG-13 rating. This could just be the conflict that got director Lexi Alexander fired (if she was really fired).
- Writer/director David Goyer suggested in a recent interview that his Magneto movie might be put on hold while he finishes a remake of Invisible Man.
- Ladies and gentlemen, behold the bacon cheeseburger pizza. We do believe it is the perfect food. As long as you leave off those nasty mushrooms. Yuck. (Via Sarah)
- Mike Myers has signed up for a small role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. Wha?! That's unexpected.
- Oh no! Warner Bros. has announced that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, originally scheduled for release on November 21st of this year, has been pushed back to July 17th of next year! Thankfully it's not because there's anything wrong with the production; the reasons appear to be purely strategic.
- Check out this sweet fan made poster for the as yet imaginary sequel to The Dark Knight. We like the title! And in fact, the rumor is that the current incarnation of Justice League has been killed for good to make way for a third Batman film from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale. Meanwhile, the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, was just cleared of all charges in that alleged assault last month on his mother and sister. Oh, and Robert Downey, Jr. says he didn't like Dark Knight, and "F-ck DC comics." Woah! Calm down there, fella. Just cause their movie was better doesn't mean you have to get all jealous and nasty...
- Darth Vader and troopers do Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Truly fantastic.
- We are unfamiliar with the Dark Horse comic Rex Mundi, but its alternate history story involving magic, the Inquisition, and horrible murders sounds pretty cool. What's even cooler is that Johnny Depp wants to star in a movie version, and the production of said film seems to be moving forward.
- Joystiq has your first look at EA's Godfather II video game.
- SEGA reveals photos of a secret room at the company packed with copies of every SEGA game ever (via). Meanwhile, SEGA also has more games planned for the Wii Balance Board and Wii Zapper.
- EA recently announced a publishing agreement with Grasshopper Manufacture, the company behind No More Heroes, amongst other very strange and violent games. The deal concerns an "all-new action horror game" produced by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and directed by Goichi "Suda51" Suda. Said game is slated for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and (whew) Wii.
- Want your own pair of wings? You can have 'em for $1,000!
- Sci Fi Wire got a look behind the scenes of Ronald D. Moore's upcoming TV pilot for Fox, entitled Virtuality. Here's their report.
- In celebration of the release today of the new horror film Mirrors, Sci Fi Wire presents its picks for the Top 10 Scary Mirror Movies.
- Turns out Billy Bob Thornton wasn't in line to play Freddy after all, but Robert Englund still things it'd be a good idea.
- Matthew Vaughn is moving ahead to direct a film adaptation of Mark Millar's recent comic Kick-Ass. Studios passed on the ultra-violent story, so Vaughn raised the money for the $30 million indie project himself.
- The long-awaited Spore will finally be released for the Mac and PC on September 7th. EA is also looking to license the film and TV rights to the game in order to better market it.
- We haven't had a chance to play it that much, but the game Robokill looks pretty awesome so far. We'll let Geekadelphia explain it to you.
- Who wants to watch the regular old Olympics when you can check out the Guinea Pig Olympics!! (Via)
- We know what we want for Christmas now: Captain Kirk's chair.
- Apparently, if you were to go to those illegal file-sharing sites, you could illegally download some illegally leaked pilots for upcoming fall TV shows. But we wouldn't recommend you do any of that of course.
- Now you can explore the philosophy of The Legend of Zelda.
