Wow, lets look up some facts before saying that the Eagles don't own our hearts. You mention about the training camp numbers going down. Just to throw it out there, all of bethlehem, allentown, and lehigh areas that held events in 2008 saw a decrease in numbers because of gas prices. Gas was around $4 a gallon. The year before when gas was not such a huge issue, there was a record breaking amount of people in 2007 on August 3rd.

"NFL Insider Lloyd Vance and almost 18,000 fans jammed into Eagles Training Camp on August 3rd"

So to say that fans do not care anymore is not true. What superbowl have we won??? So why are the seats always sold out and why are season tickets on a 3 year waiting list or more?

Its not a bandwagon that you jump on. Fans were BORN to bleed green.

When did this town stop being a football town? Do you ever hear drunken Phillies chants? Do we even have a Phillies chant? What would that chant sound like? "Hooray for not crapping out in the 9th inning! Wooo! Go Phillies!" True the Eagles look worse this year than they did last year but compared to say, the Patriots, they always look bad. Doesn't stop our drunken chants, now does it? Go Football! Go Philly! Go Eagles! Oh yeah...and the Phillies, too.

I think it's less of a matter of does the city still care as much as a city changing it's focus a bit. Philly fans love all their teams for the most part, even when the chips are down. The Eagles may be underperforming and not have all the greatness and attitude they may have once had, but that doesn't mean the fans give up. They just lay dormant for a while.

And thank GOD their are less Eagles chants off season. It ruins a good concert or a nice stroll down Olde City when a bunch of drunken douchers scream that shit random times of the year.

That's kind of what I was getting at. They're underperforming AND unlikable.

"And when that championship does come..., it won't matter what sport it is, because it'll be our favorite team." Unless it's the Soul, of course. :-)

Um...speak for yourself. Play hard and we love you, underachieve and we don't. Regardless of sport. It's a fairly simple concept, one that sets this city's sports fans apart from all of the rest, and doesn't involve the "As the World Turns" drama that you describe here.
