PAWS Dog of the Week
If you missed our recent post on the breed-specific legislation bill pending in the Pennsylvania legislature, which would have an adverse effect on many of the dogs we've profiled on Phillyist, check it out here!
The PAWS shelter is still at critical mass. If you're considering welcoming a pet into your home, now is the time!
Before we get to our Dog of the Week, an event announcement! The Raven Lounge, 1718 Sansom St., will be hosting another PAWS happy hour tomorrow night, from 7 to 10 p.m. Editor Jill and this Phillyist attended the last happy hour, and it was a grand ol' time. No cover charge, drink specials, door prizes, and best of all, money being raised to help out shelter animals in need. A portion of the evening's proceeds will go to the PAWS Lucky Fund, which finances medical treatment for adoptable shelter animals with treatable medical conditions and injuries. (These animals would otherwise be put down.) And rumor has it the Suicide Girls may be making an appearance at 10, and they may also be donating some of their proceeds to the Lucky Fund. So drink up, Philadelphia! Responsibly, of course.
And now, on to the Dog of the Week!
Blackie (ID# A05530110)
Blackie is a 1-to-2 year old pitty who was picked up from his owners by PACCA workers because the owners couldn't take care of him. He was injured as a puppy and broke his right front leg, so Blackie walks with a little bit of a limp, but it doesn't get him down. He's a perfectly happy, playful dog, and his leg shouldn't cause any future medical problems—he'll just have a distinctive, charming, goofy gait. Blackie is a friendly, curious dog who loves attention and gets along with other dogs. (He hasn't been tested with cats.) He's a medium energy dog who will need daily walks, but probably not much more exercise than that. (Though a yard for him to romp in couldn't hurt.) Come meet Blackie and see if he's the right boy for your home.
If you'd like to save Blackie, e-mail natalie@phillypaws.org. The adoption fee for a PAWS dog is $40, plus an $8 city license fee if you live in Philadelphia. The fee includes spaying/neutering, which will be performed before your new companion comes home with you, and microchipping. Also, make note of Blackie's ID number above, and bring it with you when you go to the PAWS shelter, which is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave (map).
