Can't Miss This!

grass-joe-07-31-2008.jpgPHILLY CAR SHARE PRESENTS: BBC's PLANET EARTH / THE PRINCESS BRIDE
So what if they lost the city contract to a competitor? Any company that brings in live music, local artisans and The Princess Bride is okay in our book. Sit on some of that green grass (actual condition of grass at location may vary). You'll all be very glad to know that the movie version of everyone's favorite tale of "true love and high adventure" will turn 21 in September. In the mean time, though, go watch it at the banks of the Schuykill Banks, underneath the Walnut Street Bridge. You can also catch some of the amazing footage the BBC caught for their award-winning series. Bring a blanket and enjoy free refreshments while you watch what PhillyCarShare is calling a drive-in. It's actually a sit-in, but who wants to imply a protest when you're just trying to get some quality time outside and watch an incredible 80s movie? Not us!
WHO: Anyone! Great for families and couples.
WHERE: Schuykill Banks, 25th & Walnut; see their map here.
WHEN: 8:15pm, but show up early for live music, artisans, etc.
HOW MUCH: Free!

ACTION AIDS BENEFIT AT KILDARE'S
Local AIDS activists Chumley and Carlota will be on hand, as will the publisher of Where Magazine and her staff. They will be bartending and donating all their tips to the ActionAIDS initiative. It's going to be a night of good drinks and good fun and it's all for a good cause. So tip often and well!
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Kildare's at Headhouse Square, 2nd and Lombard Streets (map)
WHEN: From 6pm to 8pm.
HOW MUCH: Buy the drinks and tip the bartenders! Rock star of the night: $2 well drinks!

HEGEMAN STRING BAND
Go enjoy the Hegeman String Band live at the Mummers Museum. They'll be grilling and milling about. There will be families, long-time residents, and maybe even a few newer residents of the area, like this Phillyist in particular. This weekly practice session brings a rotating group of bands to the stage behind the museum as they perfect their performances.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Mummers Museum, 2nd Street and Washington Avenue (map)
WHEN: 8pm
HOW MUCH: FREE!
