What's new and/or interesting on TV this week.

46664: A Concert for Nelson Mandela (Mon, 9PM-10:30PM, VH1)
Highlights of a concert held in London's Hyde Park to honor Nelson Mandela as he turns 90, and to benefit his charity, 46664 (named after Mandela's prison number). The concert's hosted by Philly's own Will Smith, and includes performances by Amy Winehouse, Queen and Paul Rodgers, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, and a variety of African artists, including the Children of Agape Choir, made up of children who have lost parents to AIDS.
The Middleman (Mon, 10PM-11PM, ABC Family)
Even TV shows are based on comic books these days. In this one, the Middleman fights evil so you don't have to. But Wendy has to, too, when the Middleman tries to save her martial arts instructor from vengeance-seeking Mexican wrestlers (!) and gets captured himself, leaving her to attempt a double rescue alone.
Nova scienceNow (Wed, 9PM-10PM, WHYY & WLVT)
An examination of whether a genetic profile can predict one's medical future; using computers to detect forged paintings; a method of capturing carbon dioxide from the air, inspired by a student's science project; and a profile of Harvard scientist Pardis Sabeti, who studies the genetics of malaria by day and plays rock and roll by night.
MonsterQuest (Wed, 9PM-10PM, History Channel)
Rats the size of cats! Uh... those are monsters now? We thought those were just things that used to live at the Vet...
Fear Itself (Thu, 10PM-11PM, NBC)
Stuart Gordon takes the reigns for this episode of the new horror anthology series. His story is about a rookie policewoman assigned to guard a serial killer. She soon realizes her fellow officers are not what they appear to be. And considering that the episode title is "Eater," it's probably not a fun realization.
4th of July Celebrations (Fri, 7PM-11PM, ABC; Fri, 9:30PM-11PM, WHYY & WLVT)
First up is Philadelphia's 4th of July celebration, featuring a concert by John Legend and the regular fireworks display at the Art Museum. Angel's Dad (Dave Roberts), Cecily Tynan, and Karen Rogers are covering. Starting later on the PBS stations is the celebration of the holiday on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. It's hosted by Jimmy Smits and features performances by old timers like Huey Lewis and the News and Jerry Lee Lewis, as well as newer performers like Taylor Hicks. Also performing is the National Symphony Orchestra, and of course there will be fireworks.

Yes, that is the lineup in other areas. But I assure you the local ABC affiliate will indeed be airing coverage of Philadelphia's Independence Day celebrations.
